Traywick Contemporary, in collaboration with Pacific Saw Works, presents opened and split, an exhibition of new work by Santa Fe–based artist Annie Vought. Marking her return to the Bay Area, the exhibition features large-scale cut-paper works built through thousands of hand-cut and collaged elements. Using primarily black oil stick and graphite, Vought creates dense, immersive surfaces punctuated by moments of color and reflected light.

“Embedded within these compositions are references to mythological and iconic maternal figures—Demeter, the Virgin of Guadalupe, Thetis—whose stories hold protection alongside rupture, grief, and transformation. A contradiction runs through the work: the simultaneous acts of protecting and harming, of holding while cracking.”
